Weddings represent the union of two individuals, a bride and a groom, in front of a group of people usually friends and family of the couple. In most religious communities, these ceremonies are regarded as highly sacred hence a lot of importance is attached to these events. Jewish and christian wedding rabbi have ensured that weddings are accorded the respect they deserve.

Among the Jewish faith, a wedding is an important ritual and hence the need for the involvement of a rabbi in these kind of ceremonies. A rabbi, in Jewish community is regarded as a teacher who offers guidance on matters of religion and law. This basically shows how serious this is regarded.

The ceremonies usually vary but there are common characteristics which feature in most these weddings. The Signing of a marriage contract between a bride and groom forms a major feature in the weddings. Other distinct features include sanctification and dedication of a couples lives to one another which not only involves the public but the law too.

The rabbi is usually at the center of such important occasions, but his major role is that of presiding over the ceremony to ensure matters run smoothly and are done according to Jewish law and tradition. Another important function is blessing the couples union while reciting blessings to the bride on behalf of the groom when they get nervous in public. The exchange of rings is also done in presence of a priest.

Among Christians, marriage is regarded as a gift from the almighty God, and should therefore not be taken for granted. Marriage represents a show of love and affection to the spouse and is to be witnessed by a large number of people, preferably in a church officiated by a priest. Once married, a couple is allowed to engage in sexual relations and there after start and raise a family together.

There are a number Christian denominations such as Protestants and Catholics that conduct their weddings ceremonies in different manners but the sacredness of the event remains the same. Apart from being conducted in a church, most involve singing and dancing and also the reading of bible sermons to emphasize the importance of union of marriage.

The priests role in the wedding ceremony is an important one. The major role is to conduct the entire proceeding in an orderly manner. He or she also enlightens the congregation on the sacredness of marriage while discouraging any actions such as unfaithfulness or mistreatment of spouses. The reciting of vows is also done by these religious representatives, followed by blessing the union of the couple.

Jewish and Christian intermarriages have become popular in recent times. Due to the similarity of these rituals and traditions observed by both faiths during wedding, such ceremonies have been conducted smoothly. Common rituals shared include, the exchange of vows and reading of sermons. These intermarriages also provide opportunities to share and adopt other practices from either faith.
